Early Spring Plants Are Arriving at Designs by Lee

The first signs of spring are starting to appear at Designs by Lee Garden Center in Stamford, and our greenhouse is beginning to fill with beautiful seasonal plants.

Even though temperatures can still be chilly in Connecticut, there are several flowers that thrive in cool early spring weather — and a few others that are perfect for brightening indoor spaces while we wait for warmer days.

Pansies & Violas: Perfect for Early Spring

Pansies and violas are some of the best flowers to plant early in the season. These cheerful blooms love cooler temperatures and can tolerate cold nights much better than most spring flowers.

They’re perfect for:

Porch planters

Window boxes

Garden beds

Early seasonal containers

Their bright colors instantly bring life back to outdoor spaces after a long winter.

Potted Daffodils & Tulips

Nothing says spring like daffodils and tulips. Our potted spring bulbs are already blooming and bring instant color wherever they’re placed.

They’re perfect for:

Porch planters

Entryway containers

Table centerpieces

Seasonal gifts

They can be enjoyed indoors or outside on milder spring days.

Ranunculus

Ranunculus are one of the most beautiful flowers of early spring, known for their layered, rose-like blooms in soft pastels and vibrant colors.

Because temperatures can still drop below freezing, ranunculus are best kept in protected areas or brought indoors during colder nights until spring weather stabilizes.

Martha Washington Geraniums

Martha Washington geraniums are loved for their large, vibrant blooms and elegant foliage. They thrive in cooler conditions but should still be protected from frost.

They’re a beautiful choice for porches, sunrooms, and bright indoor spaces early in the season.

Cineraria

Cineraria bring bold color with their daisy-like flowers in shades of purple, pink, and blue. These plants prefer cooler temperatures and are perfect for brightening indoor spaces or protected patios during early spring.

Spring Is Just Getting Started

New plants will continue arriving weekly as we move further into the spring season. Early spring is a great time to refresh containers, brighten your porch, and start planning your garden.

Stop by and see what’s arriving at the garden center.
